It is like advertising your goods at any other site - you make money when you sell things.
Another advantage - if you are connected with other members you have a bigger chance to sell because it is not only you advertising - it is your connections too.
You best chances for successful listings
A picture is worth a thousand words - so advertise with photo's or pictures
Make sure your customer service is tops - your ratings will improve and people will know you can be trusted.
Quality of your products - nobody wants to buy something that is not worth the money they pay for it.
Your prices - although you want to make money - don't be greedy. If they can find it cheaper elsewhere they will buy it elsewhere.

The best and most effective adverts are always the ones that grab your attention in one second flat - unfortunately, these are also the most expensive adds for a couple of reasons - regardless of the medium you use.
They are usually in full bright and bold colours and bigger than a businesscard. They have big bold letters and great pictures or photo's on and very often a beautiful woman.
You can spend money and place an advert like this in a newspaper or magazine.
You can print flyers like this and have them placed in a newspaper or magazine.
Personally - I will do that once I earn plenty of money with my business but in the meantime back in reality I do it in a different way.
I suggest you take the newspaper you want to use and study it. Mark the advertisements that caught your attention. Cut them out and put them next to each other. See if you can find something they have in common. Look at each one and figure out why that specific ad drew your attention.
Now that you've done that - go to the advertisements and banners SFI offers. Find one with those qualities or one closest to it. You can then use it as is or change it a bit to suit your purposes.
You might find that a lot of advertisements have a basic common look - why? Because they work.
If your target market is people my age - keep in mind, our arms are getting too short to hold the newspaper far enough to read those small letters - so use big bold letters and do not expect us to read a story.
If you advertise a toy - target the children - not the parents. For this you need cool pics or photo's for the children to see and for the parents? - where they can buy it.
Good luck

What are the best ways by which one can measure his/her success in SFI?

Set realistic but not too easy goals and when you see yourself reaching them it is exciting and motivates you to do better.
I do not measure my success in terms of money right now - I measure it with the knowledge I gained and by reaching my monthly goals. I will start measuring it in terms of money after I've learned everything I could possibly learn and I've done everything I could've done - in other words - when I can say I am an expert in my business it goes without saying that I should then earn money that makes it all worth while.
Your own goals and ideals should be your measurement.
Good luck

Fortunately the distance is not a factor. Language might be an obstacle and a challenge but you can use Google translate to help you there (a little more effort but worth it)
Apart from language there is no reason why you can't help them the same way you would help somebody in your own country.
You can provide guidance and support by communicating in your weekly team mail, personal e-mails, chat or whatever methods you have available to you. You can offer rewards and incentives through competitions.
Just do your best to be an awesome sponsor regardless of where your affiliates live.

The first thing you have to ask yourself - how successful were you doing what you are currently doing?
If you had success - keep doing that and maybe add something new. Why fix it if it is not broken? Just improve on it.
As for me - I am not happy with my results so far. I gave it two years - it is time to change what I am doing - only an idiot will continue to do the same thing and expect different results.
I concentrated my efforts on advertising on free sites. I already started changing that.
1. I am giving a lot more attention to get my blog noticed out there - and I can already see the results.
2. I also started with Traffic exchanges - I am still in the process setting it up - but I have a good feeling about it.
I think what we need is a lot of patience and the will to succeed. Even better - if you have a budget, even a small one, it will help a lot.

Anyone that ever worked for somebody else, regardless if it was a big company or a small company, will tell you that they were never paid enough for the work they've done. Even the "slackers" will feel they are not paid enough. Even If you are a hard worker and you love your job (like I do) you will know in your heart that your salary does not reflect your worth.
Starting your own business in the real world is even worst. Most businesses are all work and very little joy in the first 2 years. It is very possible that you can not afford to pay yourself a salary in the beginning.
SFI is a business like every and any other business out there, with shops and offices and staff and all the expenses that goes with it - except you do not have a staff to pay, no rent and a zillion other small expenses. You have to look at the big picture, the long term prospects. You put in the time and the effort and if you are lucky enough to be able to do so - some money. In the long term all your expenses will be paid by the business and the fact that it is YOUR business makes the time and effort you invested worth it.
If you explain it to them like that and they still feel it is not worth it they are looking for a get rich quickly scheme where they get lots of money for doing very little - not a business where they actually have to work

What is the best strategy for attracting younger people (age 21 - 35) to become active SFI affiliates?

Your question can get you very negative answers as well as very positive answers. I am in two minds about that myself.
The youth grew up with technology, so they can use it very well and if they put their minds to it they will give the rest of us a run for our money - they will hit record incomes.
The part I am worried about is that they want instant gratification and when they don't get it they move on to the next challenge - so if you plan to target them - make sure you can challenge them and you have to make sure they use the income calculator to see for themselves what they can achieve. Remember - they want to be out there and do things - not stuck indoors on a laptop or desktop - so make sure they know they can also use their smart phones, I-pads tablets on the move.
I look at young people and I am sure they are born smarter with every generation, they are "streetwise" and smart - so do not try to catch them or pull the wool over their eyes - they will wise up to it and very quickly wave goodbye.
Talk to young people you know - find out which sites and activities they favour and what is trending and work with that.
There is also a group of serious young people that loves spending time in the library and behind the books or a computer. They also have ambition to go ahead in the world and make their mark and they are more likely to stick to building their business once they committed to it and they can see how they can make their mark.
Lastly - I always wonder why people want to target a specific age group. I think our target should be people looking to work online, to find a job they can do from home (like a mother that wants to be with her children but also wants to earn money), people that lost their jobs for some reason, people that just does not earn enough in their normal jobs to make ends meet (like me) or people that realised they do not have enough now and they will not have enough to be financially independent when it is time to retire (I fall in that category too since I lost my business 12 years ago and I have about 12 years left before retirement.)

I chose my friends from people from my own country and with a status of EA and above. I want to learn from them - they are operating in the same economy as me. They have the same obstacles as me and we have the same logistical and trade laws and restrictions.
I also follow people with a status of EA and above - regardless of the country they live in - again with the aim to learn from them.

Before you had to order a starter kit with a banner for your car and some cards in. The Kit was for free but you had to pay shipment. You had to stick the banner on your car and send the photo in to get your badge and rewards. The process was frustrating to say the least if you live in a country with a poor postal service.
Now it is free. No starter Kit, no photo, no long wait. You earn your membership and badge by refering one person to TripleClicks. For every PRM (personally referred member) you are a Wave 3 member for 120 days. If you refer somebody today the countdown starts, if you refer another person 2 weeks later you start at 120 days again - which means it is easy to be a member for life without working yourself into a standstill.
Yesterday's newsletter covered this in a very good, easy to understand way - with all the advantages set out point by point. Go to your alerts tab and click to read it online or go through your e-mail and read all about it.
It is another way for you to earn an income and there is always a chance that they might also join SFI.

How do you turn affiliates' EMPLOYEE mentality...to a BUSINESS OWNER mentality?

You have to emphasize from the start that this is a business - not a job. Do not advertise it as a job, when you recruit do it as business owners. Remind them it is a business when you deal with them - either personally or via group messages, by using the word business.
In my opinion this mind shift will also comes naturally as they work on their business and there is nobody looking over their shoulder or paying a salary or giving orders. They will come to realize - If I want this to work, I will have to use my own initiative and think and do for myself.
It is a mind shift that has to happen to ensure success - but unfortunately nobody has a switch you can flip to make that happen
