If you're TRULY engaged in online marketing, you need to listen to those around you. Otherwise, you're not truly engaged. Listening is at the heart of any marketing effort, online or offline, because you have to elicit the values of your target audience. If you do not know their values, you will fail at recruiting successfully. You might find the occasional customer that way, certainly, but by comparison, it will be as if by accident.

Imagine yourself in the role of a stranger who has never heard of TripleClicks, talking to me. The first thing I'm going to do is ask you about yourself: What do you do for a living? How do you have fun? What is it you would like to do? These questions will tell me exactly what aspects of TripleClicks will interest you the most and how to best engage you with them. It's the same with groups of people--you listen to them and find out their common value, and you advertise and promote to them based on that common value.

You cannot find that common value without listening.

To "lead by example," you just have to follow these steps:

1) Explain what you're doing and why you're doing it,
2) Do what you just said you were going to do,
3) After you do these things, you report the results, and
4) Repeat the process.

If you continue informing your team using your leadership blog, your Stream posts, and your Genealogy tool throughout, you will be constantly providing them examples through your actions. It's really that simple.

If you're working on building your SFI business, your best products are going to depend on what sorts of business you intend to build:

* If you're working on a blog or other promotional website, I would recommend buying a good template from one of the digital download stores, Search Engine Optimization packages to help you construct your website to greater relevance and higher rating on searches, and traffic packages to help you garner an audience.

* If you do most of your work through social networking sites and online (or offline) classifieds, it can be handy to purchase a prestige domain so that neither you nor your prospects ever has to type in a long string of numbers when promoting.

* If you like using direct mail and other direct, physical marketing tools, SFI has a wide selection of marketing and promotion tools that you can use to bring your efforts to people who *aren't* at their computers!

* If you're a Bronze Team Leader, and you like to sell items face-to-face, you can even buy many items on TripleClicks at wholesale rates and sell them at local "flea markets" and other similar events.

In summary, before buying anything, consider your plan. That will always point you in the right direction.

Given that the gift-giving season starts in September, with several non-Christian religious holidays and continues through December, I start promotions for these in July. I start promotions so early because many of the drop-shipping ECAs can take a month or so to deliver. As we get further into the season, I switch from drop-shipping ECAs to ones with shorter transit times, particularly those featuring more individual products and projects, to appeal to the "last-minute" shopper.

Uber-Picks provides yet one more way to engage with sports fans through TripleClicks--given that there are already auctions and products for sports-lovers available through TripleClicks, this is one more opportunity. Now, I tend to focus more on products being sold through TripleClicks Direct and the ECA stores because those provide immediate commissions and VersaPoints, but I can add this to any outgoing e-mails as an addition to general "drip marketing" or mention it in a blog post on top of anything else.

One particularly clever idea is to point people to products related to the current sport that Uber-Picks features, whether sporting equipment or fan products, so that people can use the whole process to engage in a "sports night" where they can celebrate with their friends and cheer on the team(s) for whom they have made predictions. If these sports games appeal to you, I highly recommend in fully engaging with them.

It is very simple to promote the products of your favorite ECAs and earn commissions:

Step One:
Find a product you want to promote.

Step Two:
Click the "SFI Affiliates" link below the product and get your referral link for that product.

Step Three:
Share that link anywhere and everywhere you think that someone will want to buy it.

Every time someone uses that link and buys that product, you earn a commission. Congratulations!

I think there are certain elements that people miss when recruiting, particularly when recruiting on-line, that get forgotten. I have a simple process with just a few steps that seem to make all the difference:

1) Greet each member individiually in their own language, using Google Translate as a tool whenever I don't know the language.

2) Ask each affiliate about his or her living situation, goals, interests, and desires.

3) Focus on helping the affiliate learn how to use SFI, tailoring my strategies to fit what I've learned in step (2), above.

My affiliates' success and happiness are more important than any commission I might earn in the short term--the results pay off in the long term. That's it, really.
