How do you set proper goals for yourself in SFI?

I am assuming you are talking about the monthly goals tab that we fill out for our 5 VP each month. My answer is based on that screen.
The goals you set are your own. These goals help you to focus on what you want to attain with your business. Myself, I am choosing goals that I believe I can reach because it is very discouraging to have unreachable goals. It is very exciting to reach your goals and I love seeing it say "Congrats! You Did It!".
Myself, I usually set my goals a little higher each month so I am gaining, and I work a little harder to make the goals each month. I had 1 EA2 last month, so my goal was 2 EA2 this month. I am excited because I met that goal this month! I will put my goal to 3 EA2's next month and leave it there until I reach it.
I hope I was clear about how to set the right kind of goals, and not too high or out of reach for yourself. If your goals are too high, it will be discouraging when you are unable to reach them. I apply this knowledge to all things in my life and goals I set for myself. Have a great day!

Why is setting goals so important in becoming successful in SFI?

Setting goals are important in every part of life, not only in SFI. For me, personally, goals help keep me focused and give me something to work towards. If I have nothing to strive for, I get lazy and unfocused and end up doing nothing.
The Daily VersaPoints Streak was a goal that is helping me stay successful in SFI. I have been a part of SFI since 2001 (Today is my 12th year anniversary at SFI!!) and I have never been able to stay focused enough to log in every day. Since the daily streak badge has been available, I have been striving to get it. It took me several weeks to get the first one (10 days), and I lost it once, but I am now at my 60 days and working toward my 90 days. I doubt I'd be where I am today without having that goal to keep me logging in each day! I am now BTL and actually enjoying logging in each day.
I think this is why setting goals are so important for any type of success, and it's really important for Success in SFI. I feel so good when I meet a goal, it is like a reward for all the hard work. I was very excited to log in today and see all the changes with goal setting. I am looking forward to seeing all of my goals say "CONGRATS! YOU DID IT!"
