Static sites are great to use with all the above except for social media and search engines. Small, simple landing pages are ideal for traffic exchanges. They are also useful for building an autoresonder mailing list.
Blog sites are they best when you are wanting to utilize both search engines and social media. As you may or may not be aware, sites like Facebook and Twitter have blocked us from being able to post our gateway links directly as they are regarded as spam. However, create yourself a useful blog site with frequent, unique posts covering business and marketing topics that your readers have a genuine interest in, and then post on your social media sites letting your friends and contacts know each time you make a new post on your blog... viral traffic. And we all know that search engines are getting more strict about what gets indexed. So ensure that your blogs are both useful and unique and you will start getting a lot of search engine traffic as well.
