I have not bid at many auctions but I have come very close to winning several times. (Oh, I thought I would have a heart attack!) I hope I can help you somehow.
I like NAB (No Autobidder) auctions so that I can enjoy the auction (or auctions, as was the case last time until I stayed with one NAB auction.) Also, with a No Autobidder auction there is more control over Tcredit spending, not wasting Tcredits. (Two examples: By bidding too early or just by bidding like a mad person.)
The NAB auctions I have bid on all took well over two (2) hours. As long as they were, I enjoyed every second as I was in NAB auctions, I was relaxed plus I had both enough time and Tcredits...Until, despite buying Tcredits, I ran out and the auction ended shortly after! I will have to buy more Tcredits next time.
Just to give you an idea about my bids in October, a total of 186 for some auctions. At least 100 bids were placed in one day because I received two PSAs (the maximum per day) under the Bid & Build program. I kept bidding as I was enjoying the - you guessed it - NAB auction I was in.
What I have learned to do and not to do when I bid at auctions are:
1) Do not bet too early - someone usually bets right after and there goes a Tcredit;
2) Do not bet too late - SFI suggests no later than 5 seconds. I work on my smartphone and sometimes I need a few extra seconds;
3) If I watch an auction early, I watch to see how many bidders there are and how often they are bidding. If there are a few bidders, I bid near the end of the timer, within the last 20 down to 10 seconds (smartphone and my preference.) I have learned to save a good amount of Tcredits, I like 40 or so, for later in the auction for when more bidders drop in to bid. (Believe me, they do a lot more than say, "Hi");
4) When you are the highest bidder, focus at all costs! You could win or you might have to bid. (I take my smartphone to the washroom so that I can bid if I have to);
5) I started out with Tcredits but, during the auction when I needed to buy more Tcredits, to the right was Quick Buy. I selected how many Tcredits I wanted to purchase, put the amount on my PayPal Billing Agreement (the same one for my Standing Order [SO]), all was done. I did that as I was bidding; and
6) Lastly, note the time I spent in the auctions. Do not rush in to an auction if you will not have enough time to see it through. If you have enough Tcredits and bid them wisely, you can stretch them out. Time is a different matter.
