I have been in the online advertising business for many years and very familiar with all types of online advertising. My experience has taught me that effective advertising, whether paid or free is of the utmost importance. By that I mean, an effective ad will:
1) Have a Subject/Title that Grabs the Attention of the viewer
2 The Body of the ad should be short, simple and to the point, Hi-Lighting and/or use of some Color text to pinpoint the Value you are offering.
Though paid advertising is often seen by more people and therefore, the opportunity for sign ups is higher, you must have a budget for it.
A combination of both can work very well. Always track your ads so you can see which are working.
