I've been there myself and still keep going there from time to time (not alone).

Just keep on following these basics steps...
You simply need to keep on working consistently on a daily basis your To-Do List in order to gather all the possible VP points that you can during the month;
Then, you want to keep investing in your personal training by reviewing daily as well at least one of all the possible trainings, being SFI Basics, SFI Rules of Success, Ask SC, Forums, and so much more;
Then, you want to promote - marketing your business in order to recruit new affiliates and build your team. As you build up your team, you want to be the best possible sponsor for all of them as your success is really tied up to theirs;
Then, you might want to promote Triple Clicks or Pricebenders as well in order to get some TC customers or members that could generate some sales and some VP that would count on your leadership status;
And, what would help you a lot is to set up a Standing Order for 1500 VP points... you would then be sure to start each month at the Executive Affiliate (EA) level and keep working up from there.

I would personally not be able not take care about an affiliate asking me for help, no matter where he/she comes from.
I would for sure answer and help to the best of my knowledge his/her immediate concern,
while I would also be suggesting to ask for help from his/her upline... either direct sponsor, co-sponsor or further up,
as they could have some different suggestions or they might also have some kind of program in place for a specific situation as team coop for example.
Working as a team with your upline is, in my opinion, as important as with your downline...
Unless you find out that there is absolutely no one there to respond or help in any way, no connection to be made;
Then, I would get the help needed from anyone I can... (a2a, Ask Sc and forums are exactly for this purpose as well);
And, that is exactly why I would support and help in any way I can as if he/she was in my downline.
This is so Important to Help any Human Being,
As, so crucial to SFI Spirit of Community.

The best way to evaluate Traffic Exchanges is through experience. You can look at TrafficHoopla.com to see which ones are voted as the best ones... but, this is not a guarantee that these specific ones will provide you with the best results. Also, it doesn't mean you will like to work with these specific ones as well. You really need to register in many of them, work them out and TRACK YOUR RESULTS. Tracking will allow you to find out which ones work best for you and you will through experience find also the ones you prefer to work with. As an example, I am not big on Traffic Exchanges as I prefer to work with Safelists. So, you need to find out what you prefer, what gives you the best result through tracking and, adjust all along as these results will continually vary from time to time. As a Team Leader, there are 2 main activities you need to be involved in...
1) Working with the Workers... work with your Movers, the ones that are really serious and determined in making a success of their business. You need to do anything needed to help them as they are the foundation of your own business. Once you've done all you can daily to help each and everyone of them, you need...
2) To keep Promoting and Recruiting New Affiliates and/or New TC members that will keep your business growing always... Promoting is the essence, the fuel that will make your business move forward.
So, first make sure that your car is in perfect shape with every components (your movers) being perfectly fine tuned and second fill it up with gas (marketing) so it can move forward.

There are indeed many different ways one can and will use that will produce results.
First, one needs to start by looking at all the tools and ways offered here by SFI...

Then, one will go about trying different ways and see what produces better results but also, very important, that one is very comfortable and enjoy doing.
Myself, I try to diversify my marketing as much as possible...
I work with social media like Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Linkedin, etc...
I work with instant messaging like msn, yahoo, skype, etc...
I work a little with classified ads... one free site that I am doing good with...
I work a little with traffic exchanges and banner ad advertising...
And, I work a lot with safelits... for good results.
But, while working these, I find myself discarding some along the way that are not doing very good for me and joining new ones to keep on this trial and error type of process always refining my techniques, tools and ways.
And, one can invest a little money in the business in buying at least one unit of S-Builder Coop that should generate somewhere between 4-10 new affiliates every month.

Advertising is a question of trials and errors...
So, depending on what it is that you want to advertise, you will chose one banner among the possible choices.
You will use Tracking to evaluate your results over a limited period of time.
Then, you might decide to keep going with the same banner or to chose another one... hoping for better results.
Again, Tracking will be the tool to determine your results and whether you keep the same or change.
Some will give you good results for some time then reduce or stop all together...
Meaning that you will have to change them from time to time anyway.

There is plenty of incentives and info all around the SFI Center, for all of them to know the importance of promoting and getting lots of referrals to build their own team.
We can invite them to participate in a coop that we do for our team, to participate in S-Builder Coop as a way to get started with their own promotion.
Regarding promoting themselves, they possibly do not do it because they might be afraid, they might not know where to start or how to proceed, or some undefined reason.
So we need to show them the way, teach them how and where... for example, I prepared a document that I am sending to my affiliates from time to time - because I always do some updates to it - that indicates all of the ways I am promoting my business and what kind of results I am getting... it provides them with many possibilities on where to start, and they can choose what suits them best, and they can see that my ways are always changing - improving from time to time as I find better ways along the way, and they can also see that I am getting results... it might be encouraging to get started.
I can also put some incentive by telling them that for each new affiliate they get, I will match it or I will give them 10TCredits or any form of little contest can help.
And, I always remind them that I am there for them if they have any question at any time.
However, we also need to remember that we can "teach them how to" but we can't do it for them.
What we can do is to always do our best in providing all the needed support and presence!

b) the other aspect is referring to the possibility for SFI affiliates to sell their own stuff (i.e. things that you have home and that you are ready to sell because you are not using them anymore - as in a garage sale); indeed you can sell your own things through your own store at Triple Clicks; these items would be listed on your TConnect page. So, you do not have to look around to find these items as they are your own items from your own home or garage that you decide to sell and make some money out of them instead of simply discarding or giving them away.
