Good communication with our team is vital in SFI, but what if we are not good writers; how do we learn to write well?

We live in an age when we are constantly bombarded with communications of every sort – actually most of it is designed to persuade us to buy or do something or to a particular way of thinking. The communication is given a “spin” and to protect ourselves from falling prey to the “spin doctors” we need to learn all sorts of ways to distinguish truth from “spin”.

I would suggest that we shouldn’t aspire to become a “spin doctor”. Rather let us strive for integrity. Of course, we are already halfway there, because SFI is such a great ethical company. We already stand on “the shoulders” of its reputation and record, its guarantees and the quality of its productS and service. I really love all these things about SFI!

We don’t need to be a modern day Shakespeare or a word-smith. Rather, I recommend that we just be “ourselves”. Talk from the heart, talk from conviction, talk with passion. Most importantly, talk from experience. And write as you would speak everyday, using everyday language.

But before you do your writing do your research. Check the facts. (It’s a real shame that so many “answers” in Ask SC and the Forum are incorrect or, at best, incomplete.)

Finally before submitting your answer read it through again. Perhaps even speak it aloud. If it doesn’t sound right or if something is unclear, re-write it. And here’s a tip -for really important communications I write it one day then sleep on it and review it again the next morning before sending it.

And the best thing you can do Darla, is START writing. A few bumbles along the way is not a criminal offence AND you will learn as you go. Remember, YOU CAN DO IT!

How can I help the Movers on my team move up to the next level?

Firstly I “LEAD FROM THE FRONT!” I am VERY AGGRESSIVE myself in striving for the highest rank I can possibly obtain each month.

On the first day of each month I work out a plan for the month of what rank I think I can achieve. My plan includes not just the next rank but the rank above it too. I think two ranks ahead because there can be a number of ways of obtaining the next rank AND I want to work out the one way that will ALSO give me the best chance of achieving the rank above that.

Actually I am currently thinking three ranks ahead. This is because my Member Reward Points (MRP) will give me EA for the next two to three months - so becoming an EA isn’t an issue – the real issue is if I can make Silver Team Leader (SLT) again each month.

I review my rank aspirations regularly, at least weekly, and particularly every time I win more TCredits or VersaPoints (VP) – and, thanks to SFI, that happens quite regularly. Sometimes, if my personal situation deteriorates, I have to review my plan downwards. Plans are not written in stone. Life happens and we have to make adjustments. I also tell my team when that happens and why. Sometimes, later in the month I am able to revise my plan upwards again. Planning is dynamic.

I also believe that SFI has set up the TCredit and Gift Card transfers to Action VersaPoints (AVP) system, whereby it is possible to transfer up to 800 TCredits to AVP and also earn 300 AVP per month from Gift Card distribution. This means that the serious SFI businessperson SHOULD be able to achieve STL each month – and that this should become the BASE RANK. (That’s aggressive, eh?)

So, that is my personal “mindset” and I communicate this to my team regularly. I want them to know how I think, what I think and why? Hopefully then they are more likely to ask for and trust my advice.

It is from this base that I encourage my Movers to MOVE UP as far as possible each month. I’m very direct - I put the question to them. For instance: - “You are now EA – Congratulations, THAT’S GREAT! Now, do you want to go to Bronze Team Leader?” And I respond to however they answer this question.

I also explain to all my team in my weekly TeamMails that I believe SFI’s attitude is to also encourage us as much as possible to go higher, at whatever rank we are currently at. Why do I think this?

It’s because I REALLY APPRECIATE the encouragement that SFI gives us. I am referring to the messages that we receive in the “Rank Qualifications” section of our “Scoreboard Tab” on our SFI Homepage; see: -

AND, what I love about this is that AS SOON AS I have achieved one rank SFI IMMEDIATELY advises me of the what I need to do to reach the next rank. For instance, as of this moment SFI tells me that I need only 1,001 VP to become Bronze Team Leader (again) this month. I JUST LOVE THIS!

Of course, I have already received the separate email and SFI message that confirmed my EA status (in this case). Then as soon as I open my Scoreboard Tab again I am greeted with the above message.

I really love that SFI is saying to me; “Don’t rest on your laurels. We believe you can go higher.” They sow the seed – that is why I made STL in my first month in SFI. Isn’t it great that someone believes in you? And I want to pass this encouragement on to my team.

But don’t assume that your downline is fully aware of the permutations in SFI. Spell these out to them. Show them what is possible. Give them your best advice about how they could achieve the next rank. Help them “pug” any weaknesses in their daily/weekly/monthly free AVP activity – those missed AVP each day or week add up by month’s end.

And this works two ways. If, for instance, I know I can’t make the next rank by month’s end I will try and save as many free AVP as possible to carry forward into the next month – for instance the 38 free weekly AVP and the 25 AVP for a product review. In other words teach your team to earn their AVP WHEN THEY NEED THEM.

So each of my team members gets individual tailored advice geared specifically for them. AND I also respect their sovereignty over their own business – for instance I have one CSA who is happy just to be EA each month. (WOW! Am I happy she is so consistent? I can count on her every month.) I respect whatever decision a member of my team makes.

I’ve just re-read what I have written. Most of the above is written with the view point of earning as many AVP as possible each month. But my advice also includes the most cost-effective way to earn Sales VersaPoints (SVP) each month – first from personal purchases and then from Sales by PSAs and TripleClick Members (TM).

And also the ABSOLUTE need to recruit and develop a team. And I discuss with them the most cost-effective ways I have found to do this using ECA products and Pricebender Auctions (PA).

Really, the way forward will vary for each of our team members. There is no magic “one method” that will work for everyone. I see my job as helping them find out what works best for them.

How could I promote SFI with a VIDEO?

Producing my own videos to help promote SFI is something I have been thinking about for sometime. It seems to be very popular now that webpages have video content in them. And I’m thinking it may be one way for me to encourage genuine recruits who are prepared to stay in SFI for the long haul and WORK. At the very least they would know who they would be working with (me, as their sponsor).

My Apple iMac computer is the ideal vehicle to capture me talking about SFI. I just have to figure out a nice “background”. (I don’t think seeing the dining table and clutter behind me is quite the image I wish to portray.)

The second area that I need to work on is producing the graphics, screen shots, etc that will make my video interesting.

Once I crack this two problems then I can really get creative. Videos could even become my preferred way to communicate. And I can envisage me making short training videos for specific purposes.

Thank you, Zina, for getting me to do more that just think about this. I would suggest that there are so many variables that you should just “get practical” about videoing. Try making one and see how you go. I think in “the doing” you will sort out the lot of “the how”. That is what I am going to do.

Early on in my SFI “career” my sponsor shared a video link with me. It was not of myself but from another SFI affiliate. It had good and bad features. I applaud the affiliate for producing it.

And I think a video will certainly give SFI the “human” touch and it will allow us to express our personalities. This is "ALL GOOD!"

How can I be effective recruiting affiliates face to face and one on one?

I think its great that you want to get together with a prospective affiliate for a meeting, as you say, “face to face” and “one on one”. And I think that this will give you the best opportunity to present SFI to them and the best chance to sign them up.

This person may be from your warm market or they could be a contact made through local advertising or even a chance meeting. Either way you will have either known them before or at least they will have been in contact with you so that you could set up the meeting. So you know at least something about them.

Before you meet, go over what you do know about your prospect. Make a list of what you perceive to be their main interests. Then do your SFI homework. Get as much information as you can about SFI to address their interests. And prepare yourself to talk about and demonstrate those aspects of SFI as best you can.

And when you meet, just be yourself. Talk as you normally do. Use your own words. Express yourself clearly. Let your enthusiasm shine through. Be prepared to tell them what you do, what your experience has been. And express your pleasure that they may become a part of your team.

Then dress for the occasion. This is what I do. I have bought a SFI cap and 3 T-Shirts (1 SFI, 1 TripleClicks, and 1 Eager Zebra Games T-Shirt). So I choose the T-Shirt I think will be most attractive to them and I wear it and the SFI Cap when I meet with them.

I also make sure that I take with me some of the products that I have bought for myself from TripleClicks. For instance I have bought a leather wallet, which I use everyday, and in it is my Payoneer Master Debit Card. And, of course I am wearing my SFI Cap and T-Shirt.

Incidentally each of these products I purchased with MRP and they also included FREE shipping. So they were all free gifts I have earned from my activity in SFI. That’s another two great sales points to talk about.

And think about where should you meet. I would suggest that the best place to meet would be either at your house or theirs. Their house might be even better because you can show them how they could work their SFI business from their own home, using the space and equipment that they already have.

I wouldn’t recommend a café or other public place. You want to be able to talk freely and to be able to demonstrate SFI, so you don’t want a noisy or busy place where you might be interrupted.

And because this is an internet business I think you need to have access to a computer. My desktop computer is a 27 inch Apple iMac. It is readily portable. So I can take it with me if I need to. But it doesn’t need to be your computer or laptop.

It may be even better to use their computer or laptop. By doing that you are demonstrating to them that SFI works on any device that has access to the internet. It is also a great way to demonstrate the security features of SFI because each new device that you use has to be verified.

Of course you should take your smartphone with you – and make sure you have plenty of data available on it, so that you can demonstrate to them how to use SFI “on the run” from your cellphone.

I have a HUGE SFI folder on my iMac in which I keep all sorts of information that I have collected and downloaded from SFI. It also contains a copy of all my TeamMails, Stream Posts, and a summary of where I was at in SFI - my rank and badges, VP, the number of TCredits and MRP I have, etc - at the end of each month. I find this information very useful to show my progress in SFI over the two + years that I have been an affiliate. So I also take with me my flash drive that contains an up-to-date copy of my SFI folder. In that way I can just plug that into their computer if I want to show them anything that is on my flashdrive.

Then, at the meeting, I address their particular interests. And I make it very practical. I login to my SFI Homepage and demonstrate to them how SFI works.

I don’t think that you really need paper hand-outs – your computer and internet access provides much more – and IT IS LIVE. So, use that. In that way you are really letting the SFI websites sell themselves.

Finally, keep the meeting short – no more than one hour. And don’t overpower them with too much information. Instead, observe their attitude and response and answer THEIR questions HONESTLY.

What is the best way to help affiliates in my group who have limited access to a computer?

SFI is a great business to be in. BUT there are a few ESSENTIAL pieces of equipment that you need. You need a computer, a reliable internet connection, a smart phone for 24/7 connectivity and a bank account with a debit card.

If you don’t have these things you will need to get them. So you need a budget. How much will each cost to buy and what will be the monthly on-going costs?

Let me tell you what the approximate costs are in my country.

The cheapest new computer bought from the local computer shop would cost about US$300.00 (on sale). The monthly cost for an internet service would cost about US$20.00.

The cheapest new smart phone here will cost about US$50.00. And the monthly carrier fee would be about US$15.00.

A bank account is usually free to open but there is usually an annual fee for a debit card of about US$10.00. And some transaction fees will apply for sending funds overseas or receiving commissions. For instance the Payoneer MasterCard Debit Card charges US$20.00 for the card and US$2.00 per transaction to receive commissions into the account and a monthly service fee also of about US$2.00.

So, in summary, the costs to set up your SFI internet business with computer, smart phone and bank account is approximately US$400.00 and the monthly operating costs will be about approximately US$40.00.

The costs will be different in your country but you should be able to find out what they are.

And there are other options too: -

You could purchase your computer and smartphone from an ECA store. This is what we call transfer buying. Some offer free shipping and their prices could be quite competitive.

Or you could buy second hand, or get a loan to help you purchase them.

And you could try to win these items in a Pricebenders Auction. That would be the cheapest way to get them.

So, do your homework and then plan how you can purchase them.

Don’t despair if this seems like a huge amount of money. It may take you a long time to find the money to get these things. That doesn’t matter. Work at it. One day you will succeed.

It’s a bit similar to having to train for a job. Education costs can be high and it can take years to qualify. But we all do that, don’t we? So just do it. One day you will succeed. It will be worth the effort. SFI is a successful business. It can make all the difference to your future.

While you are saving up to buy a computer you will still want to keep your SFI business going. I have had this problem when I moved house, for several days I had no internet connection at home. So I did what I could to keep working on SFI each day. I used the free computer in the local library. That gave me up to two hours per day. I used my friend’s computer (but I could only do that for a short time). I used a computer at work, if I could get access to one (again I could only do that for a short time). And I used my smart phone.
So just do what you can. Make the best of any opportunities that you can find.

The great thing is that now you have a goal! And SFI will give you hope for the future. Don’t give up.

So, that’s the basics. But really, each affiliate’s circumstances are different. So get in touch with your sponsor and tell him what problems you are having. He should be able to give you advice and help you.

But you also need to show your sponsor that you are serious about your SFI business. So please do as much as you can in SFI each day. Show him that you are prepared to work because nothing is going to happen in SFI, whether you have a computer or not, unless you do.

In the past I have tried to help my downline, including my A2A friends, in any way I can. When they fall away I don’t know why because they haven’t told me.

So, never give up. There is a way. Keep trying.

How important is it that your family embrace your SFI business … and what if they don’t?

Well, it’s like any obstacle you may face in life. How will you respond? Are you going to let someone else determine your path? Or are you going to follow your own convictions?

Sadly, my family don’t embrace my SFI business. But I am determined to keep going.

To be fair they haven’t put the hours into SFI that I have. They haven’t read what I have read. They don’t understand SFI as I do. They don’t realize the HUGE potential of SFI as I do.

And, I was in their position when I joined SFI too. I knew nothing about SFI. I just wanted the opportunity to lead a better life. So I started as a skeptic and I spent the first two days or so reading and learning enough about SFI to convince myself that SFI was for REAL.

No, SFI works. I’m the weak link. I just have to learn how to make SFI work for me and to build a successful SFI business.

And, let’s “cut our family a bit of slack” too. It is not only them that don’t embrace the SFI dream, it’s almost all of my team. (I find that even harder to understand.) So why should we expect our family to be any different?

After two years in SFI I’m beginning to see some results. Last month was the first month that I will receive commissions for the month that are greater than my investment for the month. I’m really excited about that!

And, I know that when I can show my family that SFI is working for me they will change their minds.

So keep believing “SFI IS OUR FUTURE!”

Should I prospect people to become affiliates only from my own country … or from everywhere?

I say do both – DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF!

I embrace SFI’s motto “AIM HIGH – DREAM BIG!” wholeheartedly so my dream is to lead a team that has at least one Diamond Team Leader in every country in the world.

AND, this is an internet business. That lends itself to and is aimed at the worldwide marketplace.

Internet businesses and worldwide businesses are also the future of marketing. So, it doesn’t matter if you know nothing about either the internet or marketing – just get on board with SFI. All the training you need is provided free by SFI. And we can spend the rest of our lives learning how best to do it. That’s another one of my dreams!

It is a developing business too – so there is always something new coming along. None of us really knows just where SFI can take us. Isn’t that exciting!

I was also going to write that we would prospect differently in the local market to what we would do in the global market. But, thinking about it, I don’t think that we would. We really do live in a “global village” – the internet and developing technologies (Email, Skype, Facebook, etc) highlights this. But the ease with which we can travel worldwide also confirms this. So we can really use all the different marketing tools available to us both in our “own countries” and “everywhere”. We just choose what appropriate ones to use for each particular circumstance.

And, what is your “own country” anyway? Take me for instance. I was born in New Zealand but I worked for over 30 years in Papua New Guinea. (My heart is now in two places.) My wife is from Papua New Guinea and our two daughters were born there. Now we are all living back in New Zealand. Furthermore my daughters have had boyfriends from other places, such as Samoa, Niue and Tonga. My twin sister and her family live in US and my elder sister and her family are in Australia. And if I consider my grandson our “nationality” links become even broader. Really, my “own country” really does encompass the whole world too.

And that’s one of the greatest attractions to me about SFI – it is a worldwide business, through it I have a worldwide reach. I just love the idea that through SFI and my SFI business I may be helping someone I have never met lead a better life. (And that fits perfectly with my Christian faith too.)

For me the answer is prospect “everywhere”.

What is the best way to communicate with your downline?

This is what I do.

My basic communication is to use the general communication tools provided by SFI to send a message to my whole team (PSAs and CSAs) or to a group of them through the TeamMail and Stream Post facilities available to us in SFI.

I use TeamMail for such things as my welcome emails, my weekly group chats and for special information messages that I want to share with a group – such as a great Forum post or a SFI News item. The great thing about a TeamMail is that they are also sent to your team members private email address – so they receive them even if they don’t log into SFI (provided their email address is valid and whitelisted, of course).

Are these successful? Do any of my team even read them? It’s very hard to say because I get very little response from any of my team to anything I write. Even though in each communication I encourage them to ask for help if they have any questions or are confused about anything. But I have been encouraged to hear from one or two of my team who are workers that they do find these helpful and that they sometimes share my material.

I try to make these group mailings practical. The information I share in my weekly group chats is mainly divided into two areas: –

1. How to help those who have no funds to invest in SFI get started. Such things as planning a budget, transfer buying, selling to others, exploring the products and services in TripleClicks and particularly those from ECAs in their own country, and how to save so that you can invest in SFI, and what you need to be able to work your SFI business.

2. How to progress through SFI to EA, BTL and STL especially in month two and beyond. Here I am encouraging them to become a “Power User” in SFI – such things as: - what best to invest in and how to use the SFI system to your best advantage.

I also write at least three Stream Posts each week and sometimes more. Stream posts are great for short tips, notices, advice and encouragement. Each post is limited to a maximum of 340 characters. That is always a challenge to me and I have to rewrite each Stream post several times to be able to say what I want to say within that limit. Often I do my three Stream posts each week on the same day and all on the same topic – part 1, part 2, part 3 etc. Again, very rarely do I get a comment back from any of these.

And the third way in which I can reach a group of affiliates (and in this case it is not only my team) is with a Forum question or answer, and when I write an answer to a ASK SC question – but only if they read them, of course. Still, I mention this here, because I do think these are also great group communication tools.

They also increase your credibility within the SFI community – becoming a Forum Guru, displaying the “Like” badge, and being a “Top Author”, winning some VP for submitting one of the “top 10 highest rated answers”. These all contribute to your standing within the SFI community and hopefully your team will take more notice of what you say to them because of that.

But I use the Forum and ASK SC mainly for training purposes: –

- Firstly for myself, because when I prepare an answer I learn a lot about the topic, and
- Secondly for my team. These become training materials that I can post on my Leadership Page, enclose in my TeamMails or use to answer specific questions.

So those are the general communication tools with which I communicate with all or a group of my team. But for specific advice to one of my team I write to them individually.

I would usually start with an E-Card. That is good. If they respond I also get a copy in my private email and I can then respond by private email too. Personally I like using our private email addresses to communicate. You have a record of all the communication and you can attach things to the emails, which you can’t do in SFI.

A third way is the “chat” function in SFI. You can access this through the “send message” button on an affiliate’s “snapshot” page. In fact I have found that best for talking live with an affiliate when they are on-line. It’s immediate and very direct. Great for discussing a particular issue or problem and for giving specific training about something.

I don’t use the telephone because my budget doesn’t stretch that far. But I do use all the other forms of communication I have mentioned here.

Really, at the end of the day, the best way to communicate with your team is whatever is most effective at the time and that works for you both. That will vary depending on circumstances but we can be so grateful that SFI offers us such a variety of free ways to communicate. Really SFI is an exceptional business platform!

What are some of the best ways to advertise my business OUTSIDE of online social media?

I think there is great potential for SFI to help those in our local community and this is the area in which I wish to focus my advertising. And here I am talking about both Affiliate and ECA advertising.

And, obviously I wish to concentrate on FREE advertising. So anywhere where I can make personal contact with someone is my first aim. May I suggest you try the following: -

1. Select a person from your “warm” market. Prepare how you wish to promote SFI to them. Then make contact – ring them up and arrange a meeting. Then explain to them your very good, well thought out plan of how SFI could help them. Listen to their response and reply honestly and openly. Make sure you give them your experience. Show them what you are doing and how it is working.

2. Select a small business in your area and approach them about becoming an ECA. You may first request if you could sell one or more of their products through your own SFI website. And once you can prove to them that SFI WILL bring in more business ask them to sign up as an ECA themselves.

3. Look for any signs of a “depressed” market in your local community. By this I mean – people who are unemployed (like me); people who are being retrenched; people who are reaching retirement; AND businesses that are looking to expand; maybe an artist or crafts person, or hobbyist.

4. People might want to stay where they are but there is no local employment.

5. People want to improve their life/work balance and live in a “nice” place, away from a busy, expensive city. Speak to these people about SFI and how it will help them to do this.

6. I also wish to advertise on notice boards, most of which are free, and in the community newspaper (which is not free but has a larger coverage). Just something short, inviting them to contact me if they are interested in starting their own business.

If you sit down and think about it, and look around your local community, you will find that there are heaps of opportunities to advertise SFI.

But I also think online advertising is the way to start. And once you have some results from that, that proves SFI is a “winner”, you can start advertising SFI in your local community. People do want to see success before they will commit.

I should warn you though that just because you have recruited someone you know into your SFI team it does not necessary mean that they will commit to SFI. I have found that sometimes the person may decide that they do not wish to continue in SFI, or maybe they are not prepared to do the work that is necessary to be successful and they STOP. What can you do to make SFI more exciting and fun for your team?

I think the best way to answer this question is to ask it of myself. So - what makes my SFI business exciting and fun for me?

And, that question is very easy to answer – everything about SFI gets me excited and I really do enjoy working in my SFI business everyday. In fact SFI is probably the thing I enjoy doing the most.

How do I communicate this to my team?

I hope my enthusiasm and encouragement shines out through my Stream posts, weekly TeamMails (“Chats”), Forum posts, E-Cards, and in my personal emails and messages to individual team members.

I don’t suggest that we should provide extra incentives and prizes. From what I can see, most SFI affiliates are poor (like me) and we are in SFI to make money, not to give it away. In fact we can’t do that because we can not afford it. (That can come later when our SFI businesses are earning us 6 figure incomes.)

And, we shouldn’t need to either. SFI has enough prizes, perks and benefits to satisfy anyone – anyone who works that is.

So, what do I do? I explain to my team how SFI works. I teach them how to achieve something and encourage them to do so. I tell them what that will cost – then I show them, from my experience, how that cost can be reduced, and, in fact, usually is reduced to some extent, because when they are working towards that goal THINGS HAPPEN. When you work in SFI you start to win stuff - TCredits, VP, CSAs, PSAs, and MRP and you receive recognition. There is nothing like receiving a congratulatory email from SFI admin and a new badge to brighten ones spirits.

And the joy you experience when one of your team members buys something, achieves something or recruits a team member who then becomes active is JUST GREAT! Even to receive a request for help or a question from one of my team members excites me. WOW! I’ve got someone who wants to do something. Of course, to foster their joy and excitement you need to respond to their question as soon as possible and in as encouraging and helpful a way as possible.

Of course, the converse is also true – if your team member does nothing then nothing happens. They receive nothing. And, isn’t that depressing and no fun at all?

So I think, in the end, it all boils down to attitude. We can’t determine the attitude of our team member – only they can do that –and it is their choice.

But what we can do is ALWAYS be positive, cheerful, encouraging and friendly towards them. And show them from both our actions in SFI and our knowledge and advice that there is much fun to be had in SFI and excitement to experience as we grow our SFI businesses.
