That's a good question!

Setting goals when it comes to your SFI business is extremely important, just as it is with everything in life. Goals help you to stay focused, track your progress and can be a great motivator.

I would suggest that you set several smaller goals instead on one big goal. This way you can see the progress s it is happening and not get discouraged if it takes to long to reach your "ultimate" goal. Seeing the smaller steps get crossed off of your check list will also be a great motivator and you will be inspired to keep going and achieving more goals!
Example: 1-Go through the SFI training and take notes to refer back too
2-Make EA this month
3-Recruit 2 PSA's
4-Answer questions in Ask SC and become Top Author
5-List at least one new product per week in my TripleClicks Store

Committing to something, especially a business without setting goals is setting yourself up for failure. After all, how will you keep track of what your working towards?

Setting goals is very important to be successful in any endeavor you do, not just SFI.

Goals give you something to reach for; they should help keep you motivated to anything necessary to achieve them.

Without a goal, or goals, you will come up with following issues/problems:

1. How do I get started? With a goal of let's say, getting a 10 Daily Streak badge, you know what you have to do to reach that goal.

2. Is what I am doing working? If you don't have a goal, you will never know for sure. Suppose you set a goal of getting 10 new signups from your blog? If you didn't have that goal, you wouldn't know if you advertising as effective as you want it to be.

3. Why am I doing this? Ultimately, you must have a very definite reason as to why you want to something, like build a successful SFI business. With a very important WHY goal, it becomes more motivating for you to keep going. Such as providing an ongoing income for your children that they could inherit. A very large goal, but if it is important to you, the more work you will put into acheiving it.

Goals are not cast in stone; they can always be changed. But it is important to have them to know where you a going. Otherwise, you are just a follower; leaders have goals, and leaders are the ones successful in SFI.

There are some people who write that setting goals is defeating and depressing when you don't meet the goals. I don't think that most of us look at goals that way. I have goals that I have wanted to meet every since I was a small child. I have met many of those goals, but not all of them because many of them were just childish conjecture or wishes or I didn't have the natural ability to fill. Like being a great Opera singer. I have no ability to hear music in my head, and my voice is not true or on tune. I tried and tried to be a musician, learned to play the piano, but never was good at it and finally I had to admit that was a goal I wasn't equipped to achieve.

As an adult, I have learned to make more refined goals and use them as a map or guide. When I first came to SFI I set goals that I reasonably thought I could achieve. I didn't achieve them yet, but in the process I did fulfill many other goals that were just as important as those I wrote down. The ones I wrote down were financial goals, and I have left them there to remind myself that is still where I want to go and be. I might not have made the goals in the time frame I set, but I am gradually growing and still working toward those goals. In time I will make them. Do I get discouraged because I am not making them that fast? Yes I do, but that only sets my reserve and helps me to try harder and invent better ways to achieve them.

Goals are achievements, targets or destinations. Although they sounds finite, goals in business should be open-ended so that we may expand on them once they have been reached.

Why are they so important?

Goals provide us with a structured framework from which we can build upon. Without them, we would be wondering around aimlessly without direction. For the moment, think of your business as an epic journey. In order to go far, we must set goals. The goals are our stepping stones...a place where we can take stock, analyse the things that have brought us to this point and use that data to plan our next step.

Goals provide us with drive and ambition, they give us a target to work towards. Without this, we're in danger of becoming complacent or even losing interest altogether. We must remember that the goal isn't the be all and end all. If we do not reach our goal at a specified time, we can either move the goal back or change its parameters. You set your goals so you can change them.

Goals also provide us with a sense of accomplishment. Achieving our goals is the perfect time to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. This will give us the motivation to move on to the next goal.

Motivation can be strengthened through reaching our goals. Just having a goal to work towards will conjure up the motivation we need to press on.

Finally, our goals should be shared. We should discuss our goals and the goals of our team members with our team members and help each other to reach them. This can be a very powerful trust building exercise and motivational tool.

In doing this you have a focus, and knowing this is your destination makes you endure any hardship you might meet on the way and when you find a stumbling block, without a goal in mind some people might give up. But when you think of your goal, you are bound to look for ways to overcome any and every obstacle on your part to reaching that goal.
Now that the goals tab is part of your everyday list of To-Do, you will find people achieving more because they can easily see and measure their progress and see where they need to put in more effort.

Basically life is about goals and anyone without goals you will see just goes through life as if walking in a fog with no destination in mind or view.
Goals are the motivating force behind every success we are able to attain in life.
But don't limit yourself by setting impossibly high goals that will eventually make you give up or ridiculously low goals that will turn you into a lazy slob; Reach for the stars and the sky is your limit.

By setting goal, you give yourself no excuse of not doing anything and let times passes aimlessly day by day.
Reasons why setting goal is really important:
1. Direction: It gives yourself a direction. You will not get lost or give yourself time to meet new challenges ahead. You do not feel hesitant in what you are doing as you are led by your goal. It motivates you to focus your energy to work towards something you value.

2. Purpose: It gives us a purpose to do what we seek to achieve. Goals can be of all kinds regardless it is a personal goal, achievement goal, future stability, whatever, you find is important to you and your life. You will be driven as you feel the needs, the desire or you’re your dreams of getting where you want to achieve. You are self-motivated and believe that nobody can take that away from you.

3. A Self Challenge: With setting goals, you are trying to challenge yourself that you can make it and also to prove to yourself that you are capable of achieving what you have set out to achieve. We have the desire and dreams hidden in us, and that’s where we want to explore.

Who doesn't remember the days when our only goal was to get up next morning and just repeat the dumb and silly things one did the day before. Until you realize "Oh Boy, I'm stuck in quicksand."

A goal is like making a promise to yourself - and keeping it evidently shows a certain degree of maturity. Constructing your dream house starts with a dream, then the blue prints, followed by sweat and tears and doubts... restructuring and keeping moving forward.

A goal helps you to keep focused, to overcome the sweat, the tears and helps you to transform the obstacle course into "Stepping Stones" -

Set your goal high yet reachable in a timely manner, than adjust and set the next level.

A goal and a plan, together they can make any dream come true.

Setting goals is an important part of becoming successful in any endeavor including your SFI business.

But setting the goals is actually just the starting point. You need to to more to achieve your goals. You need to think about your goals repeatedly. In the words of Lau Tzu -

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

The problem lies in that many goals are often conflicting with your subconscious beliefs and programming. That can sabotage your progress. For example, many people learn from a young age that "money is evil" and they never have any significant success at gaining money because of those beliefs. Repetition of your goals can help change those deep seated beliefs that limit your success.

There are several methods including affirmations (a form of repeating your goals), hypnosis, "afformations", and meditation that are useful to help change your subconscious paradigms that create the "reality" that you live in. If you can use these methods to implant your goals deeply where they will take root, grow and be fruitful you will achieve great success.

If, on the other hand, you have no goals, your subconscious will most likely keep you going the same way you have been. If you aren't satisfied with the results you've had in the past, setting goals is one of the first steps toward changing the results you'll get in the future.
