Running contests as well as providing prizes won for the contests is a sound effective way to motivate your PSAs. What you need to do is:

1. Ensure the prizes set aside for the contests are worth contesting for.

2. Set up the contests in a way that all the members of your group can participate freely.

3. Send group mail to the members of your team to let them know about the contest and the prizes for it.

4. Do this periodically as well as redeem the prizes

My opinion is that many of the members do not read or know about the contest. I think that if it is reasonable to win the contest, many of the affiliate members will participate.

In my experience with my affiliates they respond with 100% more enthusiasum to keep on keeping on when I send them TCredits, gift certificates, the package required to sign up with Wave3 program, subscriptions. Seeing their enthusiasum inspires me to keep on giving. After all SFI teaches us that in order to earn we need to spend. Why not spend some of it on our affiliates? They are why we are earning money after all.

It is certainly a great idea to do that. SFI itself is structured on the same principle where the most active affiliates are rewarded for their performances by sharing in the commissions from the Executive pool. Motivating them with promises which take time to achieve, like telling them about commissions that will be paid almost in the middle of the month for the previous months work might not impress them much.
Create different categories in order to motivate them differently. For instance

This is a good thing to have some contests to motivate the PSAs level and also to add interest and excitement in their work.
For this, you may arrange different kinds of competition, a few may be as follows:
1.For the achieving EAs and TLs levels.
2.For quick reply to mail/stream posts (to see they log in regularly).
3.For highest sponsor rating.

I don't think prizes or contests will yield great results, the true workers are motivated by their own success. People either 'get' SFI or they don't.

Neither my sponsor or co-sponsor or any of my upline have ever run a contest or provided any prizes to motivate me. I don't think they ever look at their Movers tab either because I've never had so much as an email saying 'congratulations'. From my experience, this situation is very discouraging. I am sure that if a contest was run and prizes offered, I would throw myself into trying to compete and win a prize, because I am a competitive sort of person. Everyone, however likes to be appreciated

I have found that it is a great way to get everyone involved and earn prizes that is going to help them anyway in the long run. Think of it as you are guiding them in the right direction. Also another great way to get everyone to do what they are supposed to be doing in order to succeed is to set up a free co-op that any one can get into just as long as they get their EA status. I have only a month worth of experience but I have 308 people in my downline and they seem to be reacting very well to
